What We’re Working On – Week of November 2, 2009

Last week was a big turning point in the development of both of our upcoming games. We settled on the main interface elements of “Game 2″, and we made some important decisions about “Game 3″ as well. We also set an internal milestone for getting these projects done. As of right now we’re planning to finish both games by the end of November! It’s an aggressive goal, but I believe we can make it.

There’s not much to say about Game 2 at the moment, other than we have enough of the main interface to bring it into the engine and actually test it out. The hope is that we’ll have something to show of the game next week, even if it’s just a screenshot. Video would be preferable.

As for Game 3, due to some design concerns, we scaled back on some features that we initially thought were completely necessary. After weighing the options, we realized these features weren’t necessary to the core gameplay after all. We felt that by focusing on this core gameplay would allow for a better, more polished initial release. If the game is successful, I’m sure we’ll be returning to add all of these features later. That’s the beauty of digital distribution!

The week ahead is going to be a rough one, simply due to how much has to be done. The main interface for Game 2 needs to be finalized so that I can get back to programming the remaining features. And I’ve got my work cut out for me writing the behaviors for three of Game 3’s antagonists. Strangely, I seem to have picked the most difficult one to start with. At least the next two will be simpler. Once these are written, we’ll wire up a few scenarios, and do a fun factor check. If it passes, we’re going to go all out creating final art to put into the game. I’d say we’ll be ready to show a few screens off in about two weeks. Very exciting!
