For The Adventurous iPhone 3.0 Beta Users

UPDATE: The new iPhone OS 3.0 Beta 3 seems to have fixed all of the graphical issues with Sheepstacker! It looks like it was an SDK problem after all.

For the few of you that have iPhone OS 3.0 Beta installed, we’re aware of the graphical issues with Sheepstacker. Unfortunately, this boils down to the Unity engine being incompatible with the OS 3.0 Beta at this time. We are working with the Unity guys to resolve the issues, but be advised that since iPhone OS 3.0 is Beta, we cannot guarantee that these issues will be resolved before iPhone OS 3.0 is officially released by Apple.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Is the Unity engine not compatible with iPhone OS 3.0 at all?

Will it be re-written from scratch for iPhone OS 3.0?

From discussing the issues with other Unity developers, it seems the problems aren’t global, meaning some Unity games don’t suffer from these issues while others do.

I don’t really have an answer to give you as far as what Unity Technologies will do for iPhone OS 3.0. My theory is that there are some changes that Apple made to the SDK that are causing some problems (though I couldn’t talk about those even if I wanted to). I imagine they’ll just release an update, and we’ll have to rebuild and push our own update to the store.

In any case, the beta SDK for 2.0 changed significantly over the course of a few months, so there’s still the possibility that these are just beta jitters. The thing to remember is that the SDK is most definitely beta and still has many months before official release.
